Fauna marginal de los embalses españoles

Abstract

Marginal samples taken in 55 Spanish reservoirs are studied. The presence of 75 species of macroinvertebrates are detected, of which, more than 34 species of larval Chironomidae are recensed. Only 10 of these 75 species are common and frequent in the samples, and some have a preferential distribution in different substrates. The variety of this marginal fauna is related to the substrate, and a comparison is made with the number of species of the reservoirs benthic profunda1 fauna. Also a comparison between the number of species of profundal and littoral fauna of Esrom lake shows a poorness of species in the marginal zone of reservoirs and a similarity to the profunda1 zones of lakes and reservoirs.
