A new species of Acrididade, Melanoplus frigidus strandi (Fruhst.), has been found within the spanish fauna. The presence of these populations in high areas of the Pyrenees could be used as an indicator of certain types of microhabitats related with the tundra. The relationship between the colonization of these areas and the Cuaternary glaciations is discussed.
