Abstract

Pennatularians (Cnidaria, Anthozoa) collected along the Catalan continental sheif (Western Mediterranean)
From trawling hauls carried out along the Catalan (NE Spain) continental shelf, the systematics and faunistics of benthic Pennatularia depth: Pennatula phosphorea, Pteroeides spinosum and Veretillum cynomorium were widely distributed and frequent in sand muddy bottoms between 30 and 200 m of depth; in the same bottoms Pennatula rubra and Virgularia mirabilis were frequent only locally; Cavernularia pusilla, the only endemic mediterranean species, was scarce in similar bottoms and Kophobelemnon stelliferum and Funiculina quadrangularis were common in the continental slope although they have been found between 40 and 800 m of depth.
