Abstract

Trophic Relationship in a fish community during the summer period in the river Aljucén (Extremadura, Spain)
Feeding data of young and adult fishes of eight small species are presented. The results suggest the existence of three feeding strategies to reduce interspecific competition during the summer period: algivorous feeding habits (Tropidophoxinellus alburnoides and Leuciscus cephaluspyrenaicus) with mainly algae diet; aquatic invertebrates feeding habits completed with detritus and algae (Gambusia affinis and Phoxinellus hispanicus); detritivorous feeding habits (Carassius auratus, Rutilus lemmingii, Cobitis maroccana and Chondrostoma polylepis willkommii) with a diet based on detritus, a very abundant resource.
