Review of the chorology of Arvicola terrestris (Linnaeus, 1758) (Rodentia, Arvicolidae) in the Iberian Peninsula
Distribution of Arvicola terrestris in the Iberian Peninsula is reviewed using published data and data obtained from the analysis of owl pellets and samplings. Samplings were carried out in the Iberian northeast between 1983 and 1986. A. terrestris has in the Iberian Peninsula, a geographical distribution divided in three independent groups of populations. In Catalonia, the geographical expansion of the species to neighbouring areas of the Arán Valley is, at the present time, stationary or even with a clear regression. This is probably due to the results of the population control campaigns that have been done in recent years.
