Abstract

Cornparison of evolution of Fox populations (Vulpes vulpes L., 1758) in NE Iberian with historical (18th and 19th centuries) andpresent (20th century) data
The annual and monthly variation of captures and breeding parameters of the Fox in the NE Spain, between 1788 and 1845 (n = 897 individuals) and 1987 and 1990 (n =282) has been studied. The medium density of captures was 0.9 foxes / 100 km2 and 28.5 foxes / km2, respectively. Between 1788 and 1845 the captures were made when the cubs were living in dens (May and June), but nowadays they take place mainly during the hunting period (between October and February). There are no differences in the breeding cicle being the rut between January and March and the births between April and June.
