Abstract

Helminth parasites of Hyla spp. (Amphibia, Hylidae) in some Spanish localities
Two hundred and eighty one specimens of Hyla spp. collected from the Sierra de Gredos (Ávila), the island of Minorca (Balearic Islands), and the vicinity of Tenerife (Canary Islands) were examined for helminth parasites. Hyla arborea from Avila was inhabited by metacercariae of Leptophallus nigrovenosus, Polystoma gallieni, and Oxysomatium brevicaudatum. Hyla meridionalis from Avila were inhabited by Seuratascaris numidica and Megalobatrachonema terdentatum; H. meridionalis from Tenerife were inhabited by Oswaldocruzia filiformis and Cosmocerca ornata; and H. meridionalis from Minorca were inhabited by unidentified spirurid larvae, larvae of Agamospirura sp., and larvae of Acuaria sp. With the exception of Polystoma gallieni, all other adult helminths more commonly utilize ranid frogs or urodeles as definitive hosts.
