Abstract

Hunting techniques and food habits of the Merlin Falco columbarius in Spain
From data obtained in a postal inquiry, it is briefly discussed the hunting techniques, hunting success and choice of prey of the Merlin during winter. The main hunting technique is a low altitude powerful flight (78,8%; n = 33); hunting success is 9,l% (n = 33), and the preferred prey are small passerines of open fields. The results are not different from those observed by other auihors.
