Evolution of wild boar (Sus scrofa L., 1758) in Navarra (N lberian peninsula)
The abundance and evolution of the distribution area were estirnated using the information provided in the killing tables from the last 16 hunting seasons and the data frorn hunting battues during 1987-88 and 1991-92 hunting seasons. The wild boar inhabits the entire forested area of Navarra and a great expansion and a sharp rise in numbers was observed between 1987 and 1991. Although there has been a gradual increase in kills, the proportion of the population taken by hunting was srnall (36.7% in 1987-88 and 25.0% in 1991 -92) and insufficient to keep the population at a stable number.
