Resumen

Study of Rana temporaria L. (Amphibia, Ranidae) in Santa Fe del Montseny (Barcelona). II. Biological cycle
The biological cycle of a population of Rana temporaria has been studied. The sexual maturity is reached in the third year with a length of 55 mm for males and 65 mm for females. The beginning of the winter coincides with that of the breeding period. It takes place between the second half of february and the end of march. The larval period varies between 46 and 80 days. The active period of the adults starts at the end of the breeding period and coincides with the emerging of the subadults. During this time R. temporaria shows two population fractions. One formed by migrating individuals (females mainly), and the other by non migrating animals (males mainly). Wintering starts in october and it probably takes place into the water.
