Blood biochemistry in the Great Bwtard (Otis tarda)
Several plasmatic biochemical profiles were analyzed on 17 Bustards (Otis tarda) (12 males and five females). An analysis of simple variance was carried out to test differences between males and females. The studied parameters and the average values obtained were: caicium, 19.6 +/- 3.6 rng / 100 ml; phosphorous, 2.9 +/- 2.0 mg /100 ml; total lipids, 290 +/- 80 mg / 100 ml; alkaline phosphatase, 25.4 +/- 10.8 U.I. / l.; total 3.5 +/- 0.7 g / dl; sodium, 162.2 +/- 5.2mEq / l and potassium, 2.7 +/-0.7 mEq / l. The oniy difference between sexes was the value of plasma phosphorus (females almost twice as males). A comparison was also made with the results of other authors.
