Arxius de Miscel·lània Zoològica, AMZ, is an electronic journal that publishes faunistic, chorological, phenological, morphological and descriptive ecological articles with a full analysis and discussion of results. The journal accepts articles from all zoological groups, including the least studied taxa. There are no geographic limitations, although the journal deals mainly with the region of the Western Mediterranean.

As its title indicates, the journal is interested in publishing articles concerning all biological groups, without forgetting those which are often overlooked. The little things that run the world (E. O. Wilson, 1987).

Arxius de Miscel·lània Zoològica continues the tradition of the Natural History Museum of Barcelona’s publications on natural history, especially that upheld by the journal Miscel·lània Zoològica, which was in print from the year 1958 until 2000. In the latter year, Miscel·lània Zoològica was comprehensively restructured and significantly retitled as  Animal Biodiversity and Conservation, to assert itself as a publication clearly addressing research in the most modern disciplines of zoology.

One of the main tendencies of Miscel·lània Zoològica – in contrast with ABC’s approach – was thematic issues: natural systems, their zoological components and how they are related. These descriptions, mainly inventories, are now the specific domain of AMZ. To emphasise this objective, we have added the word Arxius (Archives) to the journal’s previous title. Consequently, Arxius de Miscel·lània Zoològica is a publication oriented towards providing accessible descriptive information on biodiversity in a format that can be efficiently reused for later studies.

To best achieve this goal, authors are strongly encouraged to deposit their original datasets in a data repository (see list of data repositories in the Open Access Directory). AMZ  participates in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility and offers assistance to authors to publish datasets on their website.
