How it is published
Arxius de Miscel·lània Zoològica (AMZ) publishes articles in an electronic version only. The contents of the articles are presented in two forms:
- Compact, in ready-to-print plain text format (PDF/A).
- Online, in linked blocks (HTML) format, composed of the text, tables and figures that appear in the compact version together with supplementary information (images, lists, expansions of tables, data matrices, etc.) that it is considered appropriate to attach.
In the online version the possibility is envisaged of publishing images, graphics and complementary information in specific formats, but authors are asked to check with the journal prior to submission.
One planned modality of the article in AMZ consists of directly publishing biodiversity databases (observations, collections) in line with the data paper concept. These data packages are disseminated in line with the Darwin Core standard and associated with the Global Biodiversity Information Facility GBIF. Fortunately AMZ has found support for the Spanish GBIF node where an Integrated Publishing Toolkit platform has been opened that allows information tables to be uploaded and metadata published in the form of data papers.
In addition to biodiversity “Occurrence data” items, GBIF also supports other data sets such as “Checklists dasta” and “Sampling-event data”, to be shared on the same platform. AMZ is committed to associating as much as possible the articles it publishes with the complementary publication of the data in the most appropriate format to GBIF.
The data papers are limited to entering the characteristics of the information supplied. The data papers modality is desirable for faunistic inventories, matrices of observations of the presence of organisms in ecological research work, and in short data tables that are useful for analysis and scientific reasoning but that remain concealed from consultation and reuse by other experts because they are not given space in more competitive journals.
The desire of the AMZ journal to disseminate scientific information on primary data is extended to spheres beyond that of biodiversity. For this reason it is also planned to link articles published in the journal with consultable information packages in generic repositories as Zenodo or eventually in specific platforms, such as GenBank and MorphBank, among others.
The criterion to be followed is that the basic field and laboratory information, underlying the publication of each article in AMZ, is in conditions to be easily harvested and reused by other environmental researchers and technicians. The journal’s editorial office offers its services to authors to agree the procedures to be followed.
The authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication, with the work available simultaneously under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License that allows sharing of the work with third parties, as long as they recognize authorship and the initial publication in this journal.
