Abstract

Autumnal feeding of Teals (Anas crecca) in the Ebro Delta
The feeding habits, during October, of a Teal (Anas crecca) population wintering in the Ebro Delta (N E Spain) are studied. The analysis of 18 gastric contents show that rice (Oryza sativa) is the main component of their diet, both in number and biomass. Other vegetals and animal preys are complementary resources. There is a populational pattern of dominance in rice consumption, and one of segregation when feeding on complementary resources. The diet of Teals in october is basically similar to that of the populations of Camargue (France) (Tamisier, 1971a; Pirot, 1981) and the Ouse Washes (England) Thomas (1982). The population trophic behaviour, however, is different in the Ebro Delta, since the Camargue populations are more or less segregated in food consumption and resource partitioning.
