The Museum of Geology of Barcelona: from its foundation to the Junta de Ciencias Naturales (1872-1905)
The Museum of Geology of Barcelona, founded in 1878 as a result of the legacy from Mr. Francesc Martorell i Peña, keeps one of the most important paleontological collections in Spain and the best in Catalonia. This work, an abstract of the thesis, which the author is working for his doctorate, reveals historic aspects of its early times, since its foundation to the first ‘Junta de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona’, formed in 1906, unknown hitherto.
