Los Sciurinae (Rodentia, Mammalia) del Mioceno de la Cuenca del Vallès-Penedès (Cataluña, España)

Abstract

Miocene Sciurinae (Rodentia Mammalia) from Vallès-Penedès basin (Catalufla, Spain).

In this paper the Sciurinae found in the Vallès-Penedès basin (Barcelona) are described. Four genera and seven species are studied, some evolutionary lineages can be drawn during the Miocene. The presence of Palaeosciurus aff. Jissurae and P. obtusidens is remarkable. The former one has peculiar characteristics. Heteroxerus rubricati and Spermophilinus bredai are relatively abundant and are similar to the same species from Calatayud-Montalbán basin.
