PDFAbstract
First Appointment about Parotosuchus (Capitosauridae, Amphibia) in the Lower Triassic of the Montseny massif.
Cranial and postcranial remains of a Capitosauridae (Amphibia, Labyrinthodontia) has been found and collected in the untsandstein facies (lower Triassic) of catalonian coastal ranges, in La Mora locality (Tagamanent, Vallès Oriental).
The fragmentary cranial remains, some of them preserved as impressions, have permitted the observation of distinct characters of the skull roof and the anterior part of the palate.
Some characteristics (open otic noth, skull and orbits shape and size, choana shape…) and mandible approach our specimen to the characters described in Parotosuchus common in the european Triassic.
This is the first appointment of cranial remains of a tetrapod in the lower Triassic of Catalonia, at the present only represented by icnites in Buntsandstein facies.
The postcranial skeleton is not absolutely restored yet, but we can see the components of the vertebrae, clavicles, interciavicles, ribs and large bones.
